Subject: Student Government Candidate Debate

Hello Norse Nation,

The Student Government Association (SGA), in collaboration with The Northerner, will hold their annual candidate debate on Monday, March 21st at 7:00 p.m. in SU 104. The debate will also be available via Zoom link: https://nku.zoom.us/j/98962183063.

SGA exists on our campus “to serve students, continuously improve NKU, and develop all students as responsible and involved members and leaders of the Greater Cincinnati area. encourage you all to attend or listen to the debate online” so I encourage you all to attend or listen online.

This year there are three slates for the offices of SGA President and Vice President. The candidates are listed here in alphabetical order by the presidential candidate’s last name:

Brittney Cabrera and Jacky Romo

I am Brittney Cabrera, and a Junior Criminal Justice major with a minor in psychology. I am running to be NKU Student body president. I am involved in the Latino mentor program; Head peer mentor. LULAC President (League of United Latin American Citizens), TRIO, Victor Guide, DEI Chair for Delta Zeta and the Inclusive Council here at NKU. I am running with Jacky Romo a Junior Construction management major. She is involved in LAMP head peer mentor, LULAC Treasurer, Alpha Psi Lambda IVP and President, Haile College of Business ambassador and the DEI Committee for College of Business, returning orientation leader, as well as Norse leadership society.

Our campaign is fighting to minimize the inequality, increase the graduation retention rate, and work with students whose first language is not English. We want students to continue to thrive and focus on academic achievements, while balancing their awareness of social injustices and administration accountability. Both Jacky and I have put ourselves in numerous leadership positions all with the intention of helping our community and organizations grow. As leaders, you are our main focus. We want to help you grow and be successful by moving forward and looking to what we can accomplish together.  he SGA elections will be held on Wednesday, March 30th and Thursday, March 31st.

Daniel Myers and Jaelynn Gentry

I am Daniel Myers a Junior from Louisville, Ky double majoring in Marketing & Sports Business and Event Planning. I am the current Vice president of SGA and the treasurer of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. I serve as a mentor for the ROCKS program on campus and I am a member of NLS & APB. I work for athletics as a marketing and promotions intern.

I am Jaelynn Gentry a sophomore psychology major with a minor in black studies in the Honors College from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am the anti-grammateus (historian) of the ravishing Rho Chi chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. I am currently an NKU R.O.C.K.S mentor after serving as a mentee my freshman year with the position of Vice President. I am also senator in the Student Government Association.

Mohamed Omar and Jimmy Renton

Mohamed Omar and Jimmy Renton are both strong advocates for all students on campus.  This can be seen through their work in Student Government, Sunrise Movement, and various other organizations.  The Omar-Renton campaign believes that every student should feel represented and heard, and under an Omar-Renton administration we’d pick up the mantle that has been left to lay on the ground.  We are ready to fight for everyone and listen to everyone.  We are ready to progress NKU forward.

Elections will open on Wednesday, March 30th and run through Thursday, March 31st, 10:00 p.m. at https://inside.nku.edu/sga/elections.html.

Have a good weekend and Go Norse!
