There will be events that take place all month long and you can find details in the event schedule below and all are welcome!

We also want to bring your attention to other large-scale events that will need sign ups/registrations. More information to come!

Genius Potential's Bert & Det: Epic Rap Battles of Black History

Join us for our first Black History Month special guests on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 6:00p in the SU Ballroom. Bert & Det produce three skits/emcee battles highlighting contrasting views of famous historical African American men and women. Their viewpoints are highlighted through rap battles encapsulating their competing ideals. This program covers the past, present, and future destiny of African American leaders. At the end of each emcee battle, Bert & Det deep dive into the historical backstories behind the captivating lyrics and engage the students in interactive trivia and dialogue. Check out a video showing an example of how they engage their audience.

B.E.S.T. (Black Employers Showcase and Talents)

We are so excited to host the inaugural B.E.S.T. (Black Employers Showcase and Talents), which will take place Thursday, Feb 16, 2:00-5:00p in the SU Ballroom. This event is intended to highlight local minority-owned and minority-led businesses by giving them a platform to showcase their organization to our racial/ethnic minority students, alumni, community members, and friends. Our goal is to help increase the number of black students and early-career applicants in internships and jobs. While we want to be extremely intentional about Black/African American students seeing people that look like them represented, this event is open to everyone.

ALL Students can register here online.

*(Act Fast) Businesses/Employers can still register with the Northern Kentucky Branch of the NAACP: https://tinyurl.com/BESTRegistration2023*

Black History Month Guest Speaker: Karyn Parsons

Join NKU in welcoming Fresh Prince actress Ms. Karyn Parsons to campus on Monday, Feb. 27, at 6:30p in the SU Ballroom. Ms. Parsons will speak about her storied career as an actress, author and owner of Sweet Blackberry, a company creating books and media that teach African American history to children. Join us in person or online. Register now. NKU students register free using the code NKUSTUFREE.
