Once you have elected your benefits, you may not make a change during the plan year unless you have experience a qualifying life event.

Qualifying Life Events:

  • Change in your legal marital status (marriage, legal separation, divorce or death of spouse

  • Change in your number of dependents

  • Birth or adoption of a child or placement for adoption

  • Death of a dependent

  • Change in your dependent's eligibility

  • Change in cost or coverage, such as a significant cost increase charged by your current day care provider or a change in your provider. (Applies to Flexible Spending Account dependent care only)

  • Change in employment status for employee, spouse or employee's dependent that affects your eligibility for benefits.

  • Change in the number of tax dependents you have (parent now resides with you or birth of child, etc.)

The benefit elections you make during Annual Enrollment are for the entire calendar year and cannot be changed unless you have a qualifying event as defined by the IRS. When a qualifying event occurs, you have 30 calendar days from the date of the event to make changes to your benefit elections and return a Family Status Change Form to Human Resources.
