Plagiarism and cheating, done knowingly or unknowingly, is academic dishonesty.
Plagiarism is using someone else’s thoughts or words and showcasing them as your own. Plagiarism can also mean submitting your own prior work and presenting it as new, original work.
Cheating is attempting to complete an assignment or task while breaking the rules. This can be copying answers from someone else’s exam, asking another to complete an assignment for you, sharing or receiving course materials (such as exam questions or answers) that you should not have access to, or using books or materials during an exam when not expressly allowed. This not an exhaustive list by any means.
In essence, cheating involves any action designed to give you an advantage over others (or designed to put another student at a disadvantage) that isn't permitted. A good rule of thumb is if you don’t feel you can openly tell your instructor about your behavior, you shouldn’t do it!
