The Northern Kentucky University Fraternity and Sorority Community will work in partnership with the University to inspire and develop life-long learners who are committed to membership in a values-based organization by demonstrating excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and collegiality while promoting a respectful environment that is inclusive and ethical.

Points of Emphasis

1. Leadership Development

One of the greatest opportunities in college is to develop leadership skills and apply these skills in practical situations. Fraternity and sorority life will teach, encourage and assist in the development of these skills. Each chapter is self-governed, and all members are expected to participate fully in the democratic processes of the chapter, the national organization and the campus.

2. Campus and Community Service

To those whom much is given, much is expected. This is the ideal, which guides the service aspect of the Greek organizations. Greeks recognize the need to be contributing members of the community. Countless hours and dollars are donated each year to many worthy causes. Community service prepares students for their roles in society.

3. Academic Achievement

Academic achievement is the foundation for an individual’s future success. The NKU Greek community is committed to the attainment of personal and chapter academic goals. As a fraternity/sorority member, your son or daughter can use the network of members who already have expertise with classes and courses. Fraternity men and sorority women have a highergraduation and retention rate than that of the average student. The support system is already in place for them. Additionally, rewards and recognition are provided to members who excel.

4. A Healthy Lifestyle

Emotional health comes from a supportive and caring atmosphere provided by peers who genuinely care about one another. Health and fitness are encouraged through active participation in intramurals and other activities. The abuse of alcohol and use of illegal drugs is not only discouraged, it is not tolerated. Fraternities and sororities provide educational programming for their members to help deal with these and other issues. The fraternity and sorority rituals provide students with a creative expression of their values. These rituals provide the members with a guide by which to live their lives.
