Under the umbrella of the Office of Inclusive Excellence, the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) is an NKU organization focused on the personal and professional growth and development of its members, as well as be a forum that advocates diversity, equity and inclusion for the betterment of the NKU community as a whole.

Missions of the Association shall be to:

  • Serve as a support forum for Black members of the University community;
  • To provide and promote leadership opportunites for NKU Black faculty and staff members;
  • Develop financial and other resources necessary to maintain the effectiveness of the Association;
  • To promote the growth and development of diversity and inclusion, reflecting the University's goals in a manner consistent with its mission
  • Establish, maintain, and expand channels of communication with the University community;
  • Assemble consultants from business, industry, government, social agencies, and organizations to conduct workshops, seminars, and programs aimed at addressing the needs of members of the Black Faculty and Staff Association of Northern Kentucky University.

Membership and Recruitment Committee

Involvement within this committee includes partnering with Human Resources and the Provost Office to share information about BFSA at new hire orientations.


Program Committee 

This committee coordinates the annual awards banquet, Ujima, Night of Black Excellence as well as semester mixers.


Student, Faculty, and Staff Retention Committee  

This BFSA committee coordinates the faculty and staff mentorship program.


Policy Committee   

The Policy Committee will be involved with the University's development and implementation of all policies and procedures that will impact and enhance working environment, diversity, and equity of Black faculty, staff, and students.


Publications and Public Relations Committee   

The Publications and Public Relations Committee recognizes the professional activities of the current Association members through monthly newsletters.  This committee handles all aspects of BFSA social media as well as any campus publications.  The Publications and Public Relations Committee also connects, build, and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, including former faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
