Faculty Development Award Applications

The university offers three types of faculty development.
Sabbaticals, Fellowships and Project Grants.

Applications are due the first Tuesday in October at 4:30pm

Sabbatical leaves are granted by Northern Kentucky University to promote
the professional growth and effectiveness of the faculty. Sabbatical leaves are granted to enable recipients based on merit to devote additional time to scholarly activity and research, advanced study, or artistic performance—all in pursuit of academic objectives.
Faculty summer fellowships provide funds to support professional development during the summer months.
Faculty project grants are awarded to provide funds to pay expenses, purchase equipment, and to cover other financial needs for sabbatical leaves, faculty summer fellowships, and for other instructional, scholarly, and creative activities where financial support is not available through department budgets.

NEW Notice of Intent to Apply for an FDA

Notice of Intent

Description: This form serves as official notice of intent to apply by the
handbook deadline, 4:30 PM on the first Tuesday in October, for a Faculty
Development Award (FDA). This form notifies Department Chairs and School Directors of the applicant’s intent to apply.

Deadline:
Applicants planning to apply for an FDA must submit this NOI (Notice of Intent) to their respective Department Chair or School Director, as well as to the Faculty Development Awards email (fda@nku.edu), by 11:59 PM on the first Tuesday in September. In order to access the submission section on Canvas, faculty must complete the survey (within canvas) confirming that the Notice of Intent to Apply has been sent to their chair/school director.

Faculty Development Awards Office Hours
are times for faculty to approach the Chairperson about individualized questions and concerns about the FDAs that faculty may not want to address in public forum.

"Office Hours" for the 2025 Faculty Development Awards are TBD. Please contact Becky Elkins for additional information and to schedule these more personal meetings.

Archived FDA Awards

The publications below summarizes the activities and work of Northern Kentucky University faculty members who were supported by the university's faculty development programs.
