Geothermal well fields use the ground as a source to heat and cool a building. This is an energy conservation tactic that uses efficient ground heat energy instead of non-renewable, less efficient resources. The HE building uses the same technique for heating water: pipes that run underground use the Earth's heat to warm the water.
