Scholars will be notified of selection by December 15th, 2024.
Our parent information sessions take place on a Saturday. Scholars are welcome to attend with their families, but are not required to do so. In this session, we will review the presentation from the school visits, as well as host a current scholar panel, a current parent panel, and provide tours of the campus.
School visits take place during the school day and are intended for prospective students. Partner schools will reach out to eligible students by invitation to attend the school visit. School visits include an informational presentation, panel with current students, and math placement testing session. Don’t see your school? Stay tuned for additional dates.
NKU is hosting prospective student hour as a part of the annual Major/Minor Fair on October 31, 2024 from 11am-12pm. The Major/Minor Fair is a campus-wide event with representatives from all academic areas available to speak with students about what they can study at NKU. The prospective student hour is open to any student interested in attending NKU in the future, including students applying to Young Scholars Academy. As this is a campus-wide event during the school day, participation requires a parent/guardian to bring their student to campus and utilize a parent note from their high school. This event is not required for prospective YSA students, but is an additional opportunity to see and learn more about our campus.
If you are a prospective YSA family who is planning to attend, we do ask that you RSVP so we can ensure we have representatives available to speak with you.
In order for a scholar to be math-ready to apply for admission, they must earn a 19+ on the mathematics portion of the ACT, or a 23+ on the KYOTE College Readiness assessment.
Prospective scholars will have the opportunity to complete the KYOTE College Readiness math assessment at their school during their school visit. These additional times are available for scholars who were not able to attend their school info session; wish to test prior to their school info session; or scholars who are interested in an additional opportunity to test. Please only sign up for one testing time slot. If you do not earn an eligible score, you will be able to sign up for any available openings for additional testing at that time.
Prior to testing, scholars should review the available practice materials here. These materials include a free textbook and practice exams.
All on-campus testing will take place in a computer lab. Scholars are responsible for bringing their own calculators and scratch paper. Testing is in the Math, Education, and Psychology (MEP) building on NKU's campus on the third floor in Room 306. Parents who are dropping off their scholars may do so outside the MEP building in the available 20-minute parking. Scholars who are driving may park in the University Drive Garage next to the MEP building. Parking is $6.75 for 2.5 hours. We do ask that scholars do not leave school early to attend testing; they may begin later than 3:30 if their school dismissal time does not allow them to arrive by then. All testing must be complete by 5:30 pm.
