Northern Kentucky University has become Alexandra Shugart’s greatest passion.

While growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, Alexandra participated in her school’s theater program throughout high school. While she enjoyed it, Alexandra knew she didn’t want to pursue it as her career path. When she began to search for colleges, her grandmother pushed her to consider NKU, and she immediately fell in love.

“That’s why I became an Orientation Leader and want to work here someday,” she says. “It may be cheesy, but I have such a strong passion for my school.”

For Alexandra, an important part of NKU is the campus community. She knows that the best way to make NKU feel like home is to get involved in student organizations and encourages new students to take advantage of them to meet new people.

So it's no surprise that Alexandra is involved with the Norse Leadership Society, the Honors College and the Honors Student Association along with being an Orientation Leader. She is studying Human Resources Management and Business Administration, and hopes to work at NKU after graduation.

“It may be cheesy, but I have such a strong passion for my school.”

Alexandra has made many close friends during her time in the Honors College and has enjoyed her courses, especially a recent class called “Music and Power.” Her favorite NKU staff member is Jim Buss, dean of the Honors College, because he is always there to help students in need.

“He really cares for each of the students and works to form personal relationships with people,” she says.

The Honors College recently awarded Alexandra two scholarships to assist her in continuing her education.

“I felt so honored and ecstatic,” she says. “It made me feel like NKU was there for me."
