Choosing to attend Northern Kentucky University (NKU) was an easy decision for Jonah Krebs. The senior accounting and economics double major grew up just one mile from campus, which he says made NKU feel like an extension of home. When he wasn’t volunteering, playing sports or participating in leadership programs at Newport Central Catholic High School, Krebs would often attend Norse basketball games, later discovering that the university’s Haile College of Business offered the wide range of experiences he wanted to pursue as an undergraduate. His history with NKU—along with a generous scholarship package—solidified his choice to enroll in 2020.

Since joining Norse Nation, Krebs has embraced opportunities to learn both in and outside of the classroom, splitting time between coursework and internships throughout the past five semesters. His efforts have paid off. Once he graduates, Krebs will begin working full time at a job that combines his passions for sports and accounting.

“I’m excited to be working exactly where I want to be after graduation,” Krebs says. “I have accepted a full-time role in the accounting department with FC Cincinnati. I’m looking forward to having a singular focus every day and dive into my career.”

"Earning a degree at NKU has been one of the most impactful experiences of my life. I cannot imagine it being any other way."

Krebs began interning with the soccer club in the summer of 2022, assisting their finance and accounting department before moving on to sponsorship and broadcasting the following year. The team earned the MLS’ Supporter’s Shield in 2023, and Krebs says he will receive and championship ring as part of the staff.

“Take advantage of experiences that are unique to college: get an internship, participate in research, study abroad, and make friends who will last a lifetime,” Krebs says. “My internships have been the most valuable experiences of my college career.”

On campus, Krebs says he feels the most at home at Haile, where he spends much of his time.

“I have made a lot of great connections with students and professors that have made a positive impact on my academic career,” he says.

Dr. Joe Cobbs had a particularly strong impact on Krebs, ever since he enrolled in Dr. Cobbs’ Rivalry & Ritual in International Sports course during his first semester.

“I have built a great relationship with him as he has challenged me to work to the best of my abilities,” Krebs says. “I had the opportunity to work on his Know Rivalry research project and have even presented my work on the project at a sports research conference in Indianapolis. I am so grateful and appreciative for his mentorship that has helped me grow and develop my future career.”

After completing his undergraduate studies, Krebs plans to study for his accounting certifications, including the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. He says that his classes’ strong emphasis on data analytics and skill development have prepared him for his future career.

“Earning a degree at NKU has been one of the most impactful experiences of my life. I cannot imagine it being any other way,” he says. “We have an alumni base making great achievements and continue to contribute to the success of the University. I’m beyond grateful for all the opportunities NKU has provided me, and I am excited for my future and the future of the university.”
