Admission Requirements

High School Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors

  • Have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. 
  • Meet any pre-requisites for individual courses. For example: math and science courses typically require specific ACT subscores or placement testing.
  • Note: Sophomores may only enroll in the courses offered at their high school (where applicable).

Exceptions may apply. Any requirements that high schools set in addition to the SBS program's requirements will be honored.

If you are a public/private high school student looking to apply to the School-Based Scholars program, please start by speaking with your high school counselor to verify your eligibility and declare your dual-credit plans. If you have already spoken to your counselor or are homeschooled, please continue below.

If you're having trouble submitting your online application, we recommend trying a different web browser. When you have succesfully submitted the application, you will receive a confirmation number. Please save this in your records.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT

If you are a public/private school students, ask your counselor to send us an official transcript.

If you are homeschooled, make sure your transcript includes an unweighted GPA and is notarized before submitting.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

All students must meet the pre-requisites of their chosen courses. If your chosen course has a pre-req please send documentation showing that you meet the requirement. Examples include:

  • Official ACT score reports
  • Official AP test score reports
  • Official transcripts from other colleges/universities

If you are a sophomore looking for an exception to take a course online/on campus or a freshman looking for an exception to take dual-credit coursework, please submit the following additional items:

  • a letter of intent explaining which specific class you want to take and why you believe you should be permitted to take a class online or on-campus;
  • a letter of recommendation from your high school’s principal certifying their approval for you to participate;
  • a letter of recommendation from a high school educator certifying their belief in your academic and emotional capability to participate in college courses.

Attention home school students: If applying for an exception, please submit the letter of intent and two letters of recommendation from non-relatives. One of those letters must be from an educator.

SUBMIT YOUR MATERIALS

Public/Private school students should submit their disclosure to their high school counselor who will send it and the transcript to our office. Otherwise, please send disclosures and transcripts to:

nkusbs@nku.edu.

All application materials (online app, transcript, disclosure, and exception letters - if applicable) must be submitted by the deadline to be considered for admission. Please allow 4-5 weeks for processing. Students who are admitted will receive a welcome letter with next steps.
