We hope you will save the date and plan to join us for our Help A Norse Convening, where we will gather to celebrate the commitment to care and student success you have demonstrated through your participation in the Help a Norse Champions programs during the 2024-25 academic year. Collaborative offices include Counseling Services, the Norse Violence Prevention Center, Student Wellness Education, Student Accessibility, Community Standards and Care, Student Conduct, and the office of the Assistant Vice President for Student Conduct and Wellness/Dean of Students.

If you participate in two or more of the following programs, you're qualified as a Help A Norse Advocate and will receive a sticker to honor your commitment to student support.

If you participate in four or more of the following programs, you’re qualified as a Help A Norse Champion and will receive a magnet to display your commitment to providing informed support to NKU learners.

  • QPR is an emergency response strategy to someone in a mental health crisis.

Bystander Intervention Training (Faculty/Staff Only)

  • Bystander Intervention is an evidence-based strategy to prevent interpersonal violence. It relies on bystanders, or those witnessing but not directly impacted by violence, to actively intervene in situations that may result in violence as well as engage in proactive behaviors to prevent violence from occurring in the first place.

Student Accessibility & Universal Design (Faculty/Staff Only)

  • This workshop will provide an overview of the services offered by the Office for Student Accessibility along with practical tips on how universal design principles can help promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all learners.

  • Be prepared to support those around you by getting certified in Mental Health First Aid. Mental Health First Aid teaches the skills needed to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, as well as how to provide someone with initial support until they are connected with appropriate professional help. In the course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies to help someone in both crisis and noncrisis situations, and where to turn for help.

Participants will also learn about tips and best practices to creating safer classroom and campus environments, how to best connect people with NKU supports, and when disclosure of a person’s circumstances might be needed.
