Student Thank You Letters

Student Philanthropy

The Importance of Gratitude

Scholarship donors are generous and caring people who give to support the educational endeavors of students like you. They typically ask for nothing in return but receiving a message of thanks from a current recipient is always special and lets them know that their scholarship is greatly appreciated. Your message reminds them why they gave in the first place and often inspires them to continue giving in the future.

Requirements for Submission

  • You will be asked to provide some basic information, including your contact information, year at NKU, and major(s) and minor(s), if applicable.
  • Your statement of gratitude has a minimum word count of 200.
  • Within the form, there is an option to upload a picture of yourself. Donors love to put a face with a name.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an example statement of gratitude that I can read before crafting mine?

Yes, please read an example HERE. Please note that the Office of Donor Relations will transfer your information as well as your statement of gratitude into an NKU template (there is no need for you to do this).

Should I include the specific name of the scholarship I received within my statement of gratitude?

Yes, it would be great if the specific donor-funded scholarship you received was mentioned within your statement. However, there is no need for you to reference the monetary amount that you were awarded.

If I received the same scholarship from one year to the next, do I need to submit a statement of gratitude each year?

Yes, from year-to-year, update the donor on your academic progress, highlighting your growth as a student and future professional.

If I received multiple donor-funded scholarships, do I need to submit the above form for each scholarship?

Yes, please submit multiple forms, so we can be sure to get one to each of the donors associated with your scholarships. Be sure to change the name of the scholarship within each statement. It is up to you if/how you want to change the content of your form beyond that.

Is there a deadline to submit my statement of gratitude?

We ask that you submit it within two weeks of being notified of your scholarship(s) by the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

If I have any questions, who can I contact?

If you have questions about your statement of gratitude, please reach out to Lily O’Bryan, Assistant Director of Donor Engagement, at obryanl1@nku.edu or (859) 572-6543.
