Student Spotlights

Hector Anaya

Hector is a Sophomore student, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Neuroscience. Since he started his journey here at NKU, he has participated in the Latino Mentor Program, he attended the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute Conference in Chicago, also just recently he attended the LULAC Emerge Conference in Washington DC. He is currently the Vice President of the NKU LULAC Chapter, also Vice President of LSO (Latino Student Organization). Outside of NKU Hector joined YES (Youth Educating Society). Over the past couple of years, Hector has helped substantially with the Latino Mentor Program especially with some students as they like to call him the unofficial therapist. There are more years to come and more help Hector will be providing.

Hector cursa el 2do año universitario con una especialidad en sicología y una sub-especialidad en neurociencia. Desde que comenzó su camino en NKU, ha participado en el Programa Latino de Mentores (LAMP), participó en la conferencia del United States Hispanic Leadership Institute en Chicago, también fue a la conferencia LULAC Emerge Conference en Washington, DC. Actualmente es vicepresidente del capítulo de NKU de LULAC, también es vicepresidente de LSO. Fuera de NKU, Hector es miembro de YES. En los últimos años, Hector ha ayudado considerablemente a LAMP, especialmente a algunos estudiantes y es por eso que lo han catalogado como el terapista extraoficial. A Hector le queda unos años más y el seguirá ayudando en lo que pueda.

Alex currently serves as the treasurer of NKU Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and NKU Chapter of LULAC. Alex was selected as a Peer Mentor for University Housing for the upcoming academic school year. She has volunteered for various events like NKU Black and Gold Days, the Mexican Consulate Day at Gateway Community College, the Northern Kentucky March and Immigration Rally, She participated as a Student Panelist at the Latino College Fair, and the Kentucky Department of Education Meeting. Alex also attended the Latino Student Orientation as well as the USHLI Conference in Chicago in February, and the LAMP Leadership Retreat last month. Alex is also an Associate Member of Alpha Psi Lambda. On top of all those organizations and time commitments, Alex was able to maintain a 3.7 GPA and made the Dean’s List her first semester of college, as an international business major.

Alex es actualmente la tesorera del capítulo de NKU de Habitat para la Humanidad y de NKU LULAC. Alex fue elegida Peer Mentor para la Vivienda Estudiantil para el próximo año académico. Ella ha trabajado como voluntaria en varios eventos como Black and Gold Day, el Consulado Móvil de México en Gateway Community College, la marcha migratoria del Norte de Kentucky. Ella ha participado como panelista en la Feria Universitaria Latina, y en la presentación al Departamento de Educación de Kentcuky. Alex también participó en la Orientación de Estudiantes Latinos, así como también fue a la conferencia de USHLI en Chicago en febrero, y al Retiro de Liderazgo de LAMP el mes pasado. Alex es miembro asociada de Alpha Psi Lambda. Además de esas organizaciones, y el compromiso de tiempo que eso conlleva, Alex pudo mantener un índice académico de 3.7 y salió en la Lista del Decano durante su primer semestre en NKU, su especialidad es negocios internacionales.
