Would I be considered an NKU student or a student of my high school?

Both! Dual-enrollment means that you are both a student at your high school AND NKU.

Will this interfere with my ability to graduate high school?

No. You'll finish high school graduation requirements by taking classes at NKU. These classes will count for both high school graduation AND college credit.

When are classes?

YSA hours are between 8:00am and 2:00pm Monday through Friday. We will help you build a schedule that allows you to take all of your classes during this time.

Can I still do activities and play sports with my home high school?

Yes. The great thing about taking classes during YSA hours is that you can still return to your home high school by the time after-school extracurriculars begin.

How will I get to NKU?

Many partner school districts have arranged transportation to and from NKU every day. If you'd prefer to drive, you may purchase an NKU parking pass.

Do I need to go to my home high school if I don't have class?

No. You are responsible enough to manage your own schedule, meaning you can work independently, enjoy some campus recreation, or even meet with your cohort friends.

What happens after I graduate from YSA?

Many of our students choose to stay at NKU and finish degree requirements for bachelor's degrees. Some transfer elsewhere and simply start their first year of college with approximately 60 hours of college credit already completed.

Will I feel lost on a college campus?

All scholars attend a multi-day orientation at NKU in August, where you'll learn to navigate campus and university resources.

You'll also see your advisors and peers several times a week in your first semester and can even attend social events specifically for you and your peers. Only YSA students have access to the YSA space in Steely Library, where you can chat with an advisor or just hang out with YSA scholars.

What if I struggle?

YSA has a full-time staff devoted to making your experience a great one! We keep an eye on your grades and degree requirements, can help you communicate with professors, and specialize in pointing you toward resources that will help you thrive in your time at NKU.
