F-1 & J-1 Health Insurance Requirements

NKU partners with Lewermark Student Insurance to provide high-quality, affordable health insurance for international students and scholars. All international students in F-1 and J-1 status are required to have the NKU sponsored student health insurance, which will be charged to all students’ NKU billing accounts each semester. Estimated health insurance costs along with books and supplies are included in the financial section on each student's Initial I-20. More information on health insurance and health care in the United States is provided during spring and fall orientation week. Exceptions to the health insurance requirement can be found here.

MYSSP - International Student Support Program

Northern Kentucky University has partnered with LewerMark and Morneau Shepell, leaders in international counseling support, to introduce an exciting new program to our campus – the My SSP, International Student Support Program (My SSP).

My SSP provides 24/7 remote mental health and acculturation support to international students via the use of technology. Students are able to access self-directed digital content in addition to connecting with clinical advisors who speak their language and understand their culture. This program is offered at no additional cost to the student and aims to support the wellbeing and retention of international students studying here at NKU by complimenting existing campus resources.

International students at NKU will now have access to support services customized for them by My SSP Advisors who:

• are Masters level counselors
• speak their language
• understand their culture
• are available 24/7 for immediate or scheduled sessions
• can be reached through mobile and web chat, telephone and video
• are experienced in supporting the unique challenges international students face

The program is fully integrated with existing on-campus resources and is completely confidential. Information on how to access MySSP can be found here.
