Immunization/Vaccination Information

NKU does not require any immunizations, or proof of immunizations, for admission to the University. However, the Health Services staff, along with the American College Health Association, strongly recommend that all incoming students, especially those living in campus housing, are up-to-date on all routine immunizations. It is also recommended that students have a copy of their immunization records. In the event of an infectious disease outbreak, there may be an immediate need to access the student's immunization records.

(Some health profession programs do have specific immunization requirements).

Recommended Immunizations

The following is a summary of the guidelines by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): It is strongly recommended that each student review their records for this vaccine as there have been recent outbreaks of measles and mumps in the United States in recent years.
• Tetanus, Diphtheria, acellular Pertussis (TdaP)
  
• Tetanus, Diphtheria (Td)
• COVID-19 
• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• Varicella (chickenpox) 
• Meningococcal (Meningitis) Health, Counseling & Student Wellness staff recommend that students, especially those living in residence halls, consider this immunization. There are 2 types of meningitis vaccines available in the United States. The meningococcal conjugate vaccine (Menactra) covers 4 strains (serogroups A,C,Y and W). There are also 2 newer vaccines that cover serogroup B (Bexsero & Trumenba).
• Influenza Vaccine (Flu)
• Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
• Pneumococcal (Pneumonia)This vaccine is recommended for young adults with chronic medical conditions such as heart and lung disease ( including asthma), HIV, or diabetes.
