COVID-19 Update
COVID-19 is a disease caused by a virus named SARS-CoV2. This virus is very contagious and spreads quickly. COVID-19 infections can range from mild to very severe, causing long term health problems or death.
COVID-19 most often causes respiratory symptoms that can feel much like a cold or the flu. Most people infected with COVID-19 have mild symptoms, but some people become severely ill. Some people can develop post-COVID conditions- often called ''Long COVID''. The best prevention measure is to get vaccinated with an updated bivalent vaccine. If you are sick with respiratory symptoms, home COVID tests are available and recommended for use if having possible COVID symptoms. Masking is also recommended when having respiratory symptoms. Visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website for more information on COVID-19, prevention, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and what to do if you are exposed or test positive.
NKU students, staff, and faculty no longer need to report a COVID-19 infection, however, in order to protect the campus community, please stay home if you are acutely ill.
Rapid and PCR COVID testing and COVID vaccinations are available in the Student Health Clinic.
FLU Update
Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by an influenza virus that infects the nose, throat and lungs. There are two main influenza viruses: type A and B which are responsible for seasonal flu outbreaks each year. Some people, such as those 65 years and older, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at higher risk of serious flu complications. The best prevention measure is to get vaccinated against the flu each year in the fall. Visit the Center for Disease Control (CDC) website to learn more about the flu, preventions, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
Rapid flu testing and flu vaccines are available in Health Services.

The staff at the SHC extend our support to members of our campus community who are impacted by the events highlighting racial discrimination and social injustice in our country. As physical health professionals, we work to support the well-being of NKU students, faculty and staff. To do so, we must acknowledge the mental, physical, and emotional toll of recent and historical events while actively working to create a healthier society, free from injustice. We stand with, and strive to uphold, the core values of this University; to foster a community of belonging through equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The impact of these events, whether experienced directly or vicariously, could result in significant distress, increased feelings of anger, sadness, hurt, anxiety, changes in sleeping or eating habits, difficulty concentrating, or changes in relationships, or other behavior patterns. If you are experiencing distress, it is important to know that your reactions are valid. Self-care strategies, such as engaging in social and community connection and taking time for yourself to “unplug,” can be an important part of coping with these responses.
We stand with you. We are here for you. If you would like to talk to a nurse, you can do so by calling (859) 578-5660, Monday - Thursday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
The St. Elizabeth Physicians Student Health Clinic (SHC) is staffed by a Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurses (RNs).
