Each graduate should purchase academic apparel at the NKU Bookstore in the University Center, the only officially approved vendor for caps and gowns. The only required pieces each degree candidate must have are a cap, gown and tassel. Master and doctoral candidates must also have an academic hood.
Associate and bachelor degree apparel includes a black gown, black cap and black/gold tassel and will be available for purchase at the NKU Bookstore beginning at Grad Fair, October 8, 2024.
Undergraduate students who qualify for University Honors (see your undergraduate catalog for criteria) will receive an honors cord to wear with their apparel. Honors cords can be picked up at Grad Fair October 8 and 9, in the dean's office of your respective college after October 9, or at commencement on December 14. If you are a member of an honorary society, check with your dean's office to determine the availability of additional cords to be worn at commencement.
Master degree apparel includes a black gown, black cap and a tassel and hood in the color corresponding to the field of study (view the complete list of hood colors). Master's regalia will be available in the NKU Bookstore beginning October 8, 2024.
Doctoral regalia must be specially ordered in advance. Doctoral candidates will be contacted by their program director's office with order and pricing information.
Please note that master and doctoral candidates DO NOT receive University Honors cords. If you are a member of an honorary society, check with your dean's office to determine the availability of additional cords to be worn at commencement.
Graduates are encouraged to purchase apparel early to ensure the best selection of sizes.

Herff Jones is the only officially approved vendor for NKU graduation announcements. Personalized graduation announcements and class rings may be ordered from the Herff Jones website.
The Bookstore will also have a satellite booth on the concourse level in Truist Arena at commencement with a selection of graduation gifts available for purchase.
