The Grounds department maintains all the turf, side walks and roads on Northern Kentucky University's (NKU) Highland Heights campus. Some of the their other responsibilities include snow and ice removal, outdoor trash and litter clean up and athletic field maintenance.

The Horticulture department maintains, builds and develops gardens and landscapes on NKU's Highland Heights campus, providing the highest level of service possible to the university. They have many other responsibilities including landscape design, installation of new plant material, and pond management along with other projects.

NKU earned The 2014 PGMS Gold Medal which is given to an individual or entity to recognize them for outstanding and long-term achievements and/or contributions to the green industry.
