Veteran Leadership Minor - How & Why?
What is the NEW Veteran Leadership Minor?
NKU's new Veteran Leadership minor not only honors the dedication of our military and veteran students but also recognizes the immense value they bring to our campus community. Adding the minor to our academic catalog is designed to precisely identify and credit the valuable skills and experiences you gained in the military. All current and future students are eligible to pursue the Veteran Leadership Minor (ensure to schedule with Professor Richardson (see below) to ensure it is the right fit for your educational goals).
What are my next steps as an empowered student?

NEW Moonbeam Scholarship Student Need Fund - RETURNS - Thanks to American Legion Post 203 in Latonia, Kentucky we are NOW OPEN TO take Scholarship Applications! See Channel 9 News Story on Program HERE
The Moonbeam Scholarship is available thanks to the many outstanding donors who help make the vision a reality—thank you! Please consider a donation (HERE) to ensure this program continues, and put "Moonbeam" in the comments section. Thank you!
The VRS is now proud to offer a one-time student need scholarship fund called the Moonbeam. Current full-time military-connected and veteran students who are eligible for VRS services can apply for up to a $500 scholarship award if a full time student in good standing at NKU. This scholarship was created to aid in a need that may prevent immediate academic success. For example, however not absolute, would be a car repair preventing access to in person classes, or a broken laptop and you no longer can attend online courses, etc. The need should be justified within the write-up, and will go to the VRS “board” for review and approval. Currently, the fund has limited dollars, so please only apply if you have a real need to address immediately to support you in your educational goals. Once funding is exhausted we will put the program on hold once again.
!!APPLY HERE - CURRENTLY TAKING APPLICATIONS!!
If you have any questions please contact the VRS at veteransresource@nku.edu, call 859-572-7867 or stop by MP 230.
Attention all CH 31 & CH 33 Veteran Students!
Are you familiar with the Veterans Benefits & Transition Act of 2018?
In particular Section 103 of Public Law 115-407 states, "Educational institutions must have a policy in place that will allow an individual to attend or participate in a program of education if the individual provides the school with a Certificate of Eligibility (COE). VA interprets "certificate of eligibility" to be any documentation provided by VA that serves as verification of an individual's eligibility to benefits under Chapter 31 or 33."
Ensure you provide your COE or equilavent to veterans@nku.edu and have your SECR form on file for the semester you wish to use your benefit - if questions please call 859-572-7867.
Our nation’s veterans are a community of dedicated, disciplined, and talented leaders—and the student veterans at Northern Kentucky University (NKU) are no exception. After serving selflessly in uniform, they have chosen to continue their service by pursuing higher education and preparing to make an even greater impact in society.
NKU is proud to be nationally recognized as one of the Best for Vets Universities, a Top College for Advanced Education and Transition, and a Military Friendly University. These honors reflect our commitment to providing tailored programs, resources, and support that ensure academic success and smooth transitions for military-affiliated and veteran students. The Northern Kentucky community also proudly welcomes these students—learn more at Veterans – Welcome in NKY.
But true success for our student veterans is a team effort. Community members can play a vital role through mentorship, volunteering, resume reviews, service projects, hiring opportunities, or financial contributions that directly fuel veteran engagement and programs. Every effort, large or small, helps move the mission forward. To get involved, contact the Veterans Resource Station (VRS).
Located in the Math, Education, and Psychology Building (MP 230), the VRS serves as a one-stop liaison and hub of connection, fostering a strong community that provides, coordinates, and champions services for veterans, military-affiliated students, faculty, and staff as they pursue their academic and career goals.
