Located in Room 220 on the library's second floor, the makerspace is free and open to the NKU community (this includes current students, faculty, and staff).
To use the equipment, makers must complete an access and usage agreement form and may be asked to show their NKU All Card upon entering. Walk-ins are welcome. Maximum studio capacity is 20 people.
Use the drop downs below to learn more about our equipment and how to use it in Stego Studio.
Large format printing is a service provided by Steely Library's Stego Studio. Our large format printer service is for academic use cases including conference posters, capstone posters, or other class-related poster printing. This service does not print advertising or promotional materials, dorm decorations, or presents. This service complements existing services on campus, including CINSAM's Research Poster Printing and SOTA's Print Lab. Stego Studio's large format printing service only supports users not covered by CINSAM and SOTA.
We print the following sizes:
NKU students, faculty, or staff who need to print a research poster for a conference (internal or external) will be allocated up to 5 linear feet each year. We also collaborate with faculty and staff who help facilitate poster experiences for their students, at a small cost ($5/linear foot).
Looking to print a poster? Complete our Qualtrics submission form to share additional details. Expect an email from our Stego Studio staff within 2-4 business days with additional information on your print. Our anticipated turnaround time is within one week.
If you're a non-STEM discipline student printing a poster for Celebration, please submit your request through this Qualtrics submission form and see more information on Celebration's webpage.
To use one of our three 3D scanners, visit during open hours and a member of our makerspace staff will help you get started on the scanner that will work best for your project. Keep in mind the following rules for scanned items:
At this time, 3D print filament and consumables are provided by Steely Library. Due to limited staffing and resources, projects related to research and instruction will be prioritized.
If you don’t have an academic use case yet, we encourage you to scan or print a small 'fun' test print to become familiar with the technology. We have a few example prints you can make and take home with you! Please note that creating products for commercial or business-related purposes is not allowed.
To start a 3D print, you must visit Stego Studio and consult with makerspace staff. Prints are limited to 12 hours without express permission from a Makerspace Supervisor. For larger projects, or projects with many parts, you are limited to 1 build plate at a time. Once one is complete, you will have to visit again to start the next print.
You will be instructed as to when you can pick up your print. We cannot store your item, so please be prompt with pickup.
Files should be stl or obj format ONLY. You can get started finding models on Thingiverse and Printables, or modeling your own through TinkerCAD or any other 3D modeling program.
For safety reasons, the laser cutter must be operated by makerspace staff. If you have a project idea, please visit during open hours and consult with makerspace staff.
We will only cut or engrave select materials that we have sourced. Stego Studio can provide up to 2 sheets of select material and will help you source materials to order beyond that.
Files should be in SVG format for cutting or engraving. Jpeg or PNG will work for engraving only. No other file types are supported.
