Temporary Closure & Relocation

Steely Library will undergo a major update to its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system beginning in June 2026. This project is essential for bringing the HVAC system up to modern standards. Due to the scale of this project, Steely Library personnel and services will move to the Landrum Academic Center while active construction work is taking place in the Steely Library building. 

This web page will remain up-to-date with all the latest information about the building closure and relocation. We encourage you to follow us on social media, as we will share information on those channels throughout the duration of the project. We will also share information through faculty and staff channels like the Academic Affairs Update. 

Library Services in Landrum

Library personnel, library services, and some high-use collections will be available in Landrum during the building closure. We will occupy space both on the third and fifth floors of Landrum. 

• The third floor of Landrum will be the library’s front door, and the spot to receive assistance, pick up Interlibrary Loan materials or course reserves, print off a document, and study in reservable group study rooms.  
• The fifth floor of Landrum will be open study space including a small computer lab and printer, additional reservable group study rooms, host specialized library services like our Stego Studio makerspace and Special Collections & University Archives Reading Room, and library employee office spaces.  

Project Timeline

This is an estimated timeline and things could change. The Library Closure Action Team (LCAT) will work to keep this timeline updated throughout the duration of the project. 

• January– May 2026: Library personnel plan for relocation, working closely with the Office of Planning, Design & Construction. 
• May 2026: The Steely Library building closes following the conclusion of the spring semester. Library personnel and services move to set up over in Landrum. 
• June 2026: Steely Library re-opens to the campus community in the new Landrum spaces.  
• August 2026 – February 2027: Library operates out of Landrum for the duration of the fall semester and the start of the spring 2027 semester. 
• February – March 2027: Library personnel and services return to Steely Library. 
• March 2027: Steely Library building reopens for the campus community.
