Tell me about life pre-NKU. Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Why did you choose NKU? What kept you here?
I chose NKU because while researching it showed they had a great journalism program here and what has kept me is the welcoming atmosphere and community.

Can you tell me a little about what you're studying?
I am studying journalism with a minor in communications. What I would like to do with that is to eventually become a broadcast journalist. 

What does Black History Month mean to you?
What Black History Month means to me is recognizing important individuals that have paved a way and made sacrifices for future generations to come. 

Can you talk about the importance of having AASI and NKU R.O.C.K.S. on campus? 

Attending a predominantly white institution, it is important to have AASI and NKU R.O.C.K.S. on campus so that African Americans have a sense of support in students education, socially and mental support. 

How has your time with NKU R.O.C.K.S (or any NKU professors, programs, organizations, etc.) shaped your identity?

My time with NKU R.O.C.K.S has helped me shape my identity and helped me become a more confident African American woman. With the different programs and organizations included into NKU R.O.C.K.S it has helped me to branch out and become apart of several different organizations on campus including become a mentor for NKU R.O.C.K.S, a member of Nu Upsilon Black Women’s Honorary and many more organizations.

What’s your favorite class?
News Reporting and Writing

Where is your favorite spot on campus? What makes that spot so special?

My favorite spot on campus is the Student Union, especially the Center for Student Inclusiveness. This spot is so special because we are not only surrounded around like-minded people of different cultures and backgrounds but it also serves as a safe place for students.

Where’s the best place to study on campus?
The best place to study on campus are the study rooms located in the Health Innovation Center. 

What is your greatest passion?
As a journalist, my greatest passion is to be a voice for others and to help make change at least for one individual a day.

What’s a favorite NKU memory you’ll never forget?
A favorite NKU memory I will never forget would be R.O.C.K.S week during my freshman year as a mentee in NKU R.O.C.K.S. 

What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
My favorite way spend my free time would be shopping, writing, or hanging out family and friends. 

Who’s your favorite professor (or staff member)? Why?
My favorite professor is Michele Day because within my major she has helped me with different tips and resources that I can carry on throughout the rest of my journalism career. 

How do you stay focused?
I stay focused by taking notes and studying with friends. 

What advice would you give to a first-year student?
The advice I would give a first-year student would be to manage your time wisely. In college, there is a lot that a student has to tackle at once and so creating a schedule will help in the long run. 

What has been your most challenging academic experience so far? Why?
My most challenging academic experience thus far is being in a virtual learning environment during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic because I am a hands on learner and so it was hard to adapt to not being face-to-face.

Have you had any memorable internships or co-op experiences?
A memorable internship that I have had the opportunity to be apart of was being an Editorial Intern at Cincy Magazine. It have gave me a better understanding of the type of work I will be doing once I graduate.  

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

What I am most looking forward to after graduation is starting my journey to opening a non-profit organizations for the youth, especially of the minorities. 

What kind of job would you like to have after you graduate?
The type of job I would like after I graduate would be starting off as a broadcast journalist but eventually becoming a traveling journalist. 

What does getting your degree mean to you?
What getting my degree means to me is that it equals to something that I can take great pride in and the hard work individuals put in for African Americans to attain an education would also convey. Also, what getting my degree means to me is that I am not another statistic in my society but yet I have overcame the challenge to get where I am today.

What are a few things every NKU student should do here before he or she graduates?
A few things every NKU student should do before they graduate is to network and get involved. It can lead to many opportunities in the future. 

Tell me anything else about yourself and/or NKU that you want folks to know.
One thing that I want NKU to know is that I love fashion and I can see myself creating NKU merchandise in years to come. Go Norse!
