SOCHE Cross-Registration at NKU

The Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) Cross-Registration Program allows degree-seeking students at participating SOCHE institutions to take undergraduate or graduate courses at another SOCHE member school and receive credit toward their home degree.

This program expands access to courses not offered at NKU while allowing students to remain enrolled and pay tuition to their home institution. Course-related fees are the responsibility of the student and may be charged by the host institution.

Additional Information

Registration Information

SOCHE Cross-Registration Process

  1. Students begin the cross-registration process at their home institution and then proceed to the host institution.
  2. Students may register for courses at other SOCHE member institutions according to the registration periods designated by each school.
  3. SOCHE Cross-Registration Forms and instructions are available from the registration offices at both the home and host institutions.
  4. Students must have approval from their academic advisor and obtain the required signatures from both the home and host institution to complete registration.
  5. Information on courses available at SOCHE member institutions is available from each school’s registration office or official course listings.

Credit and Grades for SOCHE Cross-Registration

  • Credit earned through SOCHE cross-registration is automatically sent from the host institution to the student’s home institution.
  • If a student has a transcript hold at their home school, the host institution may not be able to send the transcript until the hold is removed.
  • NKU records grades from SOCHE courses on the student’s transcript.
  • Students visiting NKU from other SOCHE institutions should check with their home registrar about how grades from SOCHE courses are accepted.

Note:

  • Students must be matriculated in a degree program at their home institution to be eligible for SOCHE cross-registration.
  • Students are generally limited to cross-registering for half or less of their course load in a given term.
  • Summer eligibility is based on enrollment status in the previous term or approval by the home institution.
  • Cross-registration is not available for faculty or staff, except on an audit basis, unless they are matriculated in a SOCHE degree program.
