Visitors

Steely Library welcomes the general public. Visitors are free to use materials in the library. Visitors can also access Steely’s online databases, ebooks, and other digital collections from any Public PC in the library.

Guest login information is available from the Public Services Desks. Note that off-campus access to online databases is only available to NKU Students, Faculty, Emeritus Faculty, and Staff.

Alumni can:

  • check out materials (see Borrow, Renew, Request);
  • request interlibrary loan items through SourceFinder;
  • use services such as "Ask Us";
  • use databases in the library; and
  • use open access databases from off-campus (marked Open access; in the database list).

The general public can:

  • use certain services such as "Ask Us";
  • use databases in the library; and
  • use open access databases from off-campus (marked Open access; in the database list).

Kentucky residents can:

  • check out materials (Kenton, Campbell, or Boone Public Library card holders);
  • use certain services such as "Ask Us";
  • use databases in the library;
  • use open access databases from off-campus (marked Open access; in the database list); and
  • use Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) databases (marked KYVL subscription; in the database list). To access KYVL databases, get a password from the Kentucky public library that issued your library card and access the databases from the KYVL website.

High school teachers can:

  • schedule library instruction for their class.

Retired and emeritus professors:

  • Emeritus professors who are teaching are considered current faculty and have access to all library resources and services.
  • Retired professors and staff have the same access as alumni.
