President Cady Short-Thompson invites applications for the next Vice President of Student Affairs for Northern Kentucky University (NKU). NKU is seeking a candidate who is student-centered and dynamic, a leader who will thoroughly enjoy being engaged with students and the life of our university.

The VP of Student Affairs will report to the Provost and lead key university units including:

  • Student Conduct and Wellness: Overseeing the Dean of Students, Wellness, Counseling, Conduct, Community Standards, Violence Prevention, and Accessibility.
  • Student Engagement and Inclusiveness: Managing Student Engagement, the Student Union, Campus Recreation, Event Services, and various student initiatives (African American, Latino, LGBTQ+).
  • University Housing: Supervising Residence Life, Operations, and Facilities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Reliable judgment, sound discretion, and excellent interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collegially with a wide and diverse constituency.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with the various constituencies of the University, meeting people where they are.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with an ability to build team morale and promote team spirit, as well as an ability to foster an innovative and inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-quality faculty, students, and staff.
  • Excellent initiative with resourcefulness, sound judgment, and an ability to find creative and practical solutions to problems.
  • Must have the ability to manage a large and complex budget.

 

Key responsibilities of the Vice President of Student Affairs will include:

  • Serve on the president’s cabinet, advising on student retention, graduation, and community building.
  • Lead and oversee all Student Affairs units, focusing on programming, policy, and resource management.
  • Advocate for students and advise senior administrators on student development and wellness.
  • Develop and implement innovative, student-centered initiatives that promote success and belonging.
  • Align programs with research-based outcomes to enhance academic and post-graduation success.
  • Manage a multi-million-dollar budget, including conference revenue and grants.
  • Foster a positive student community through open communication and advocacy.
  • Assess and improve Student Affairs activities to boost student engagement and belonging.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and university policies.
