If you receive a bomb threat:


Accept the threat as real.  Ask the following questions:

  • When is the bomb going to explode?
  • Where is the bomb located?
  • What will cause the bomb to explode?
  • What does the bomb look like?
  • Why did you place the bomb? 

Record following information about the call:

  • Time of call
  • Estimated age and sex of caller
  • Speech patterns or any accents
  • Emotional state of caller
  • Background noise

Immediately contact University Police at (859)572-7777 or dial 911 (identify yourself as an NKU employee or student).

  • Do not use radios or cell phones near the suspected bomb.
  • Do not turn lights on or off.

If the threat is made in writing, do not handle the letter or note any more than necessary.

If it is determined that evacuation is necessary, evacuate the area by word of mouth.  Do not use the fire alarms to evacuate (see Evacuation Procedures)

Follow the directions of Police Officers and other responding emergency personnel.

 

If you observe a suspicious package:


  • Notify University Police at (859)572-7777 or dial 911 (identify yourself as an NKU employee or student).
  • Give the location and description of the object.
  • Do not touch or move any unfamiliar objects.
  • If you saw someone leave the package, give a description of the person.
  • Evacuate the immediate area by word of mouth (see Evacuation Procedures).
  • Do not use radios or cell phones near the suspicious package.
  • Do not turn lights on or off.
  • Follow the directions of University Police and other responding emergency personnel.
