The wonder of nature is often something we take for granted. The truth is, as humans we are not separate from each other, and we are not separate from nature. The myth of separateness often keeps us from the truth of ourselves. Come experience the Planetarium show Earthscapes, followed by a guided relaxation practice that cultivates gratitude for the natural world around us and reconnects us to the amazing gifts that nature has to offer on Monday, April 17 at noon in the Planetarium, SC 409. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome.

Earthing (also known as grounding) is a means in which to improve mental and physical well-being by mindfully connecting with the earth. Join us for this 30 minute wellness through nature event where we will do a short mindfulness exercise followed by discussion. Chris Lawrence, Associate Professor in Counseling, will facilitate this event. All are welcome to join. We will end by visiting Loch Norse and feeding the fish!

Environmental Narratives Through Storytelling, organized by NKU’s Sustainability Engagement and Action Group, focuses on bringing the NKU community together by telling our environmental stories and listening to others. The Cincinnati 2030 District invites anyone interested in solar to participate in a Solar Town Hall, an exciting opportunity to learn about the latest in solar technologies. Join us as we hear from experts across the solar industry and connect with leaders in our community implementing solar at a variety of scales.Participants interested in getting a cost estimate for their building or business can bring a recent utility bill for that address showing 12 months of electricity usage. the St. Anne Wetlands will be available every half hour (2:00, 2:30, 3:00, and
3:30 pm). Bring your rain/muck boots and dress for the weather! Celebrate Earth Day by getting outside and learning about the flora and fauna
that call these wetlands home.

The Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition produces an annual Earth Day celebration. It's a community event for not-for-profit organizations, businesses, government agencies, and individuals from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Tri-State region who work cooperatively and actively to promote the beauty and environmental quality of the Tri-State area.
The Ohio River Sweep
The Ohio River Sweep is an annual cleanup that extends the entire length of the Ohio River. Since 1989, ORSANCO has gathered thousands of volunteers across six bordering states have come together to pick up trash along the river and its tributaries.

Art and Earth Day at Pyramid Hill
Celebration of art and nature at Pyramid Hill! Established as a non-profit in 1997, Pyramid Hill is a 300+ acre sculpture park with 73 permanent collection outdoor sculptures displayed in a landscape of rolling hills, meadows, and lakes.

Fort Thomas Earth Day Celebration

The Fort Thomas Forest Conservancy along with the city of Fort Thomas hosts Northern Kentucky's largest Earth Day event. Join us along with Northern Kentucky Beekeepers, Fort Thomas Tree Commission (sapling give a way), Springcreek Farm, Home Depot (bird feeder kits) to name a few. We will also have sales vendors, food and beer trucks, and free entertainment. There will be many activities for children and environmental education for all. Please bring your old electronics and other items that are not accepted buy Rumpke recycling. We will have the proper people to recycle.
This year’s theme is “Invest in Our Planet.” Participants can meet and speak with area “green” organizations to learn about solar power, locally sourced food, recycling, sustainability and other topics.

Have you ever worried about toxins in the environment and in your home? Did you know that there are over 80,000 chemicals on the market? We are exposed to toxins daily, in the air we breathe, and even in the food we eat. The human body is equipped to deal with toxins, but when it becomes overloaded the body becomes less efficient at managing them, and our toxic load increases. This can lead to long-term, and sometimes difficult to diagnose, health issues. Unfortunately, many of the products marketed to keep your home smelling fresh actually spread synthetic chemicals into the air you breathe. The good news is you have control over the products you use in your home. Say hello to essential oils and goodbye to scented candles, aerosols, and plug-in air fresheners.
This class includes a make-n-take session.

For Earth Week in 2018, we will continue to encourage healthy and sustainable
living through activities such as the Earth Day of Service tree planting, Glen
Helen hik, Monday Mile walk, staff/faculty supply swap, sustainability themed
cycling class, FUSE meeting, Six@Six Threading the Ocean: Sustainable Fashion,
thrift shop, community garden clean-up, and our #stopfoodwasteday.
During Earth Week 2017, the university saw the release of its 2017 Sustainability Strategy. The strategy is a guiding document for the next five years that will help the university keep track of current sustainability initiatives, introduce new strategies to reflect the needs and strengths of the institution, and guide us in our efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

During Earth Week 2016, we celebrated the release of one of our alternative transportation programs, the Gotcha! Bike Share program. The program has been very successful and many students have enjoyed using bikes for recreation and alternative transportation around campus and the local community.
