Dear Campus Community:

With a heavy heart, I write to share the news of the passing of one of our students, Peyton McKenzie of Norwood. Peyton was enrolled in the College of Informatics’ Computer Information Technology program. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Peyton’s professors remember him as a hard worker who actively participated in discussions. He was a kind person and will be missed by those who shared his classes. Before coming to NKU, Peyton served in the United States Army and earned his associate degree during his four years of service. He was a graduate of Mason High School and was very active in his Boy Scouts Troop. According to his family, Payton was an outdoorsman and loved being in nature, hiking and seeing wildlife.

Losing a member of our campus community so close to the end of the semester is difficult, and the university has services to support you. For our students, Health, Counseling, and Student Wellness’ counselors and support services can be reached by calling 572-5650. We also have a 24-hour crisis line at 859-572-7777, in addition to the national crisis line available at 1-800-784-2433 or by texting 741741. For our faculty and staff, we offer Aetna’s Employee Assistance Program through University Wellness. There are online resources and counselors available anytime.

The holidays are a time to gather with loved ones, but they can also be times of stress and sadness for some. Please remember you are not alone, and it is okay to ask for the help you need. Our Norse Family supports each other. Our deep condolences go out to Payton’s loved ones and friends. He will be missed.

Sincerely,
Ashish Vaidya
