Dear Campus Community:

I am heartbroken to share the news of the tragic death of Cierra Allen, a third year Chase law student. Cierra was killed early Saturday morning in Cincinnati. Our thoughts and prayers go to Cierra’s family, friends, her fellow law students and the members of the Chase community.

Cierra is described as an outstanding member of the Chase student body. Even with two young children at home, Cierra volunteered her time to serve as a Chase Ambassador to welcome prospective students to the law school. Her smiling face is featured on the Chase website. We know Cierra’s passing will have a great impact on the entire Chase community, and grief counselors will be available on campus this week.

A tragic loss of a member of our campus community impacts all of us, and it is okay to ask for the help you need. For our students, Health, Counseling, and Student Wellness’ counselors and support services can be reached by calling 572-5650. We also have a 24-hour crisis line at 859-572-7777, in addition to the national crisis line available at 1-800-784-2433 or by texting 741741. For our faculty and staff, University Wellness provides the Employee Assistance Program through Aetna. It offers online resources and counselors available anytime.

Chase College of Law is planning a remembrance for Cierra in the coming days, and anyone who would like to celebrate her life is encouraged to attend. Please remember, you are never alone if you are struggling, and help is always there. We are a Norse family, and we take care of each other.

My deep sympathies go out to Cierra’s family, the faculty, staff and students of Chase and our campus.

Sincerely,

Ashish Vaidya
