The Coordinator for Leadership, Curriculum, and Training, reporting to the Associate Director of Residence Life, is responsible for advising the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH); for developing, maintaining, evaluating, and annually revising the departmental residential curriculum; developing, benchmarking, and managing departmental hiring processes for all University Housing undergraduate student staff; and developing, assessing, managing, and implementing training for all University Housing undergraduate student staff. This position also serves on-call for the campus residential community, taking after-hours calls from graduate and professional residence life staff, and attends professional and student conferences for professional development and the advancement of advised organizations.
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Residence Life, and with guidance from the Associate Director of Housing Operations and the Director of University Housing, the Coordinator for Leadership, Curriculum, and Training is responsible for:
- Refine and revise the programmatic efforts, initiatives, and partnerships critical to the success of the residential curriculum; Coach and support residence life staff in the implementation of the residential curriculum, including the development of lesson plans, outreach and support initiatives, and relationships with campus partners. Benchmark and assess the effectiveness of the residential curriculum on an annual basis, seeking benchmarking standards from peer, aspirational, and regional institutions. Support the Associate Director of Residence Life in the management and development of Living Learning Communities and the Faculty-in-Residence programs in University Housing. Attend professional conferences, as directed by the Associate Director of Residence Life, to develop skills and knowledge in pertinent areas and bring back best practice to Northern Kentucky University. This position may be asked to regularly attend the Institute on the Curricular Approach with ACPA.
- Advise and guide the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), including one-on-one meetings with organizational leadership, facilitating annual elections to select student leaders, advocacy for student initiatives and programs, and the integration of both organizations into the fabric of University Housing at NKU. Coordinate an annual training and leadership retreat for organizational student leaders. With student leaders, attend relevant annual conferences, including No Frills, state, regional, and national leadership conferences (i.e. NACURH).
- Coordinate the hiring process for all University Housing undergraduate student staff including, but not limited to, resident assistants, desk assistants, mail clerks, front desk staff, Housing Marketing team members, and Housing CARE team members. Benchmark and assess the effectiveness of hiring processes in attracting NKU students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that students hired to University Housing are reflective of the institutional population and regional demographics.
- Develop, implement, assess, and manage the departmental training processes for undergraduate, graduate, and professional staff in University Housing. Cultivate and maintain relationships with campus partners at Northern Kentucky University to facilitate continuous connections with University Housing staff and relevant and updated training initiatives. Benchmark and assess training programs with peer, aspirational, and regional institutions.
- Develop on-going and quarterly to semi-annual assessments to determine the needs of NKU students and student leaders. Apply assessment results to develoment of the residential curriculum, outreach efforts in hiring practices, methodologies for training, and best practices in advising student leaders. Share this information across University Housing to improve best practice for working with NKU students.
- May supervise graduate and/or undergraduate student staff as a part of these outlined responsibilities, as appropriate and as determined by the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Associate Director of Housing Operations, and the Director of University Housing.
- Serve on-call, taking calls from graduate and professional residence life staff, manaing the needs of the residential communities and students and managing crisis situations, mitigating emergent conflict, and advising staff in their work with residential students after-hours.
- Work closely with, and take direction from, the senior leadership team in University Housing, including the Associate Director of Residence Life, the Associate Director of Housing Operations, and the Director of University Housing. Serve on departmental, divisional, and university committees as appropriate and as determined by the University Housing leadership team.
