The room change request form opens to all residential students after the first few weeks of each semester. We are unable to accept room change requests prior to that time.
Once the form is complete, the student requesting a room change will be contacted by a member of the University Housing Team which can include their Residence Hall Director, etc. Denials for room change requests should be addressed first to the Residence Hall Director.
To minimize the disturbance to residents, and allow for convenient scheduling, approved room changes take place on weekends.
Per the Housing Contract, residents are not always notified in advance when a new roommate is assigned. While University Housing makes every effort to provide advance notice as a courtesy, this may not be possible in emergency room change situations. Residents are expected to keep the unassigned side of their room clean, accessible, and ready for a new roommate at all times.
Each student is assigned to one specific bed space within a room, even if the other bed is currently unoccupied. Using or occupying both sides of a room, including placing personal belongings on the unassigned bed or desk, is considered double occupying. If Housing staff observe double occupying during health and safety inspections or room checks, students may be charged for both bed spaces, and disciplinary action may follow.
Student billing adjustments may take up to one week to process. Housing charges are prorated based on the move date. Students who move within the same housing rate will see no change to their bill (or offsetting charges and credits). Moving to a higher-cost housing option will result in an increased charge, while moving to a lower-cost option may result in a credit.
For questions regarding billing or how charges were calculated, please contact the University Housing team in Norse Commons.
