Eligibility Summary

Parent/Guardian or Spouse eligible for CH 33 and currently serving in active duty or Reserves who transfers entitlement to child or spouse. 

Children of an active duty member of the Armed Forces who has died in the line of duty (after 9/10/2001).

Spouse or child of a Veteran who died or is permanently & totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability. (Other eligibility categories available; see www.gibill.va.gov for details.)

Maximum Award

Up to 36 Months (Service member can only transfer he/she has remaining entitlement. Additional service commitment may be required.)

Benefit Summary

All monthly payments are paid on a lag schedule on the 1^st day of the month.

Entitled % of:

BAH: Monthly stipend paid directly to benefit recipient.

Book Stipend: Paid to student no sooner than 2 weeks from 1^st day of class.

Tuition & Fees: Paid directly to the Institution.

Entitled at 100% of:

BAH: Monthly stipend paid directly to benefit recipient.

Book Stipend: Paid to student no sooner than 2 weeks from 1^st day of class.

Tuition & Fees: Paid directly to the Institution.

Monthly stipend paid directly to student.

Benefit Expiration

Generally 15 years from last day of active duty.

Eligible up to age of 33.

Spouse: 10 years after Veteran found eligible.

Child: Eligible between the ages of 18-26.
