Newport mural

Whether it was the colorfully decorated flying pigs of the Big Pig Gig, the murals that decorate many of Cincinnati’s downtown buildings or the floodwall murals in Covington that capture northern Kentucky’s history, public art brings our community together.

Two offices at Northern Kentucky University, the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement and the School of the Arts (SOTA), have collaborated with the City of Newport over the past two years to produce public art projects in Newport. Some of those projects, including murals on Southgate Street and a wall sculpture in the Northern Kentucky Scholar House, already are completed and installed. Additional projects are contemplated, including those described on this page.
