Winter Break 2024 Information Timeline

  • October 1 - Winter Break Housing Form Opens at 9am
  • October 7 - Spring 2025 Housing Application Opens
  • November 5 - RA Winter Break Floor Meetings Begin
  • December 6 - 24-Hour Quiet Hours Begin
  • December 11 - Winter Break Housing Form Closes at 12pm
  • December 14: 
    • Residence Halls Close at 12:00p for non-graduating residents and 8:00p for graduating students
    • Winter Break Housing Transition 3pm - 5pm
  • January 11th - Move in Day Spring 2025 Resident Halls Re-Open at 10:00 AM

Please note: There are no early arrival requests for the Spring semester. Residents who arrive earlier than January 11th will need to make other arrangements.

Winter Break Resident Information

Winter Break Floor Meetings with your RA

Residents are required to attend their Closing Floor Meeting. RAs will have posted information in your residence hall community about the location and time of your Closing Floor Meeting. Failure to attend may be considered an improper check-out and additional fees may be assessed.

Fall 2024 Graduating Senior Move-Out Information

First off, congratulations you are almost at the finish line!

Fall 2024 Graduating Seniors will need to apply for Graduation in order to remain eligible for the graduating senior move-out extension time. We highly suggest that you begin packing your up room and taking items home during the break periods.  

For all Fall 2024 Graduating seniors will need to be moved out by Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 8pm.  

Fall 2024 Move-out Information (Transferring, Military Deployment, etc.)

If you are leaving NKU for any reason at the end of the Fall 2024 semester, please make sure to submit your Spring 2025 Housing Cancellation form by December 1 so that spring housing charges are not applied to your Spring 2025 bill.  

Residents completely moving out for the fall term will need to be moved out by Saturday, December 14 at 12pm

You can submit the Spring 2025 Cancellation Form by going to your housing portal. 

Winter Break Resident Expectations 

Residents who are approved to reside on-campus during the Winter Break period will be expected to follow all University Housing Policies and Procedures and the NKU Code of Conduct.  

During the Winter Break period, residents are NOT allowed to have guests enter, stay or be present in the residence halls.  

For your safety, Housing staff will continue to be on-call for any issues that may arise for you during winter break. Your residential front desk will also be open 24 hours a day during Winter Break. Housing staff will continue to do walk-through inspections of all residential facilities during winter break. 

Residents continuing to break any policy or procedure may be asked to leave winter break housing and make altnerate arrnagements.

Winter Break Housing Information - Open and Closed Buildings

The Winter Break Housing Form will be open on Friday, October 4, 2024.  Residents who apply for winter break housing by December 1 will be given priority consideration for winter break housing.  

For this coming winter break, there will only be certain residential communities remaining open beyond December 14, 2024 (see below)

  • Norse Hall
  • University Suites
  • Callahan Hall
  • Northern Terrace

Winter Break 2024 Closed Residential Communities

  • Kentucky Hall
  • New Hall

Winter Break Fee Information

Winter Break Fee: $500 (flat rate)

The winter break fee will be charged to the Spring 2025 student biller direct statement that must be paid by the first day of classes along with tuition, housing, dining and all other fees.  

Winter Break Building Specific Information

For Residents Livining in Callahan, Northern Terrace, University Suites and Norse Hall

  • Residents will need to apply via the Winter Break Housing form by December 1, 2024 to be given priority consideration to be allowed to stay on-campus during winter break.  
  • Residents will be charged a $500 flat fee to stay on-campus during winter break.  
    • The winter break fee will be charged to the Spring 2025 student biller direct statement that must be paid by the first day of classes along with tuition, housing, dining and all other fees.  
  • Residents in Callahan, Northern Terrace, Univerfsity Suites and Norse Hall will be allowed to reside in their current room space if approved for Winter Break Housing.  

For Residents Living in New Hall and Kentucky Hall 

  • New Hall and Kentuky Hall will close on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 12pm for residential students
  • Residents requesting winter break housing will be temporarily relocated to Callahan Hall for winter break housing.  
    • Residents will need to complete the Winter Break Housing Form by December 1, 2024 to given priority consideration.  There are limited number of spots available for winter break housing.  
    • Residents living in the New Hall or Kentucky Hall will not have access to these facilities during winter break.  
  • Residents will be charged a $500 flat fee to stay on-campus during winter break.  
    • The winter break fee will be charged to the Spring 2025 student biller direct statement that must be paid by the first day of classes along with tuition, housing, dining and all other fees.  
  • Residents who are approved for winter break housing will be sent specific information regarding transition timeframes for winter break housing.  

Winter Break Campus Information

Residents who choose to stay on-campus for winter break will need to consider the following:

  • All dining facilities will close on Friday, December 13 at the conclusion of dinner. Residents will need to provide their own meals after this time.
  • NKU will be closed beginning December 19, 2024, until January 6, 2025.
  • We will only have on-call staff available for assistance while the university is closed.
  • The NKU Shuttle Service will be suspended during this time but the TANK 25 will be running on holiday limited route schedule.  

Residents can submit a winter break request by coing to their NKU Housing Portal > Housing Contracts and Forms > Winter Break Housing Form 2024 beginning Friday, October 4, 2024.  

Winter Break Resident To-Do List

  • Attend your RA Closing Floor Meeting. It is a requirement.
  • Thoroughly clean your room and bathroom, if applicable. All areas should be clear of any trash, debris, personal belongings, etc. Ensure your shower is clean.
  • Sweep/vacuum your floors before you leave so no other dust accumulates.
  • Dispose of all garbage in the appropriate trash or recycling areas outside of your building.
  • Make sure you have everything you will need for the winter break, as building access will only be available to those who have an approved for winter break housing.  
  • Any damages (if any) will be assessed after the residence hall closes. Residents will know what damages they are being charged for but will not know the final cost until after the residence hall closes.

Health and Safety Room Inspections

As part of the winter break process, RAs/Housing staff will be conducting health and safety inspections of every residence hall room. RAs/Housing staff will document any University Housing and Code of Conduct policy violations.

Spring 2025 Move-In Information

All Residence Halls will open on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10am.  At this time, we will not be offering any early arrival requests.  Students will be able to access their residence hall space via their All Card and Keys on Saturday, Janaury 11, 2025.
