Summary: The Chris Holbrook Papers consist of a few items from Holbrook’s first collection of short stories about his native Appalachia, Hell and Ohio: Stories of Southern Appalachia. These are the final drafts of the stories in the order Holbrook had originally conceived for them and a set of corrected page proofs.

SCOPE AND CONTENT:

The Chris Holbrook Papers consist of items from Holbrook’s first collection of short stories, Hell and Ohio: Stories of Southern Appalachia, published in 1995 by Gnomon Press, about his native Appalachia. The papers include the final drafts of the stories in the order Holbrook had originally conceived for them, a set of corrected page proofs, an event schedule for the 30th anniversary of Gnomon Press, and correspondence. 
 

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL SKETCH:

Holbrook was raised in Soft Shell, Knott County, Kentucky. He received an MFA from the University of Iowa and is an associate professor of English at Morehead State University. He has also taught at Alice Lloyd College.
