During World War II, Australian soldiers who had been newspapermen before enlisting in the military began the Guinea Gold, a daily newspaper for soldiers in the South Pacific. Until the War ended it was printed in two editions, one for the "Diggers", or Australian troops, and one for the "Yanks", as the Americans were known.
