ADMINISTRATIVE/BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

John Kohnen was born in Covington, Kentucky in 1887 to William and Mary Kohnen. Prior to World War I, he worked as a boilermaker in a railroad shop for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company. He served in the 35th Engineer Regiment, which trained at Camp Grant near Rockford, Illinois, during World War I. Kohnen died in 1962 and is buried in Mother of God Cemetery in Covington, Kentucky.  
 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

Collection contains an oversize photographic print of a group portrait of Company
H, 35th Engineers at Camp Grant, Illinois on January 19, 1918. Kohnen is
identified in the back row of the group portrait as the eighteenth individual from the right side of the photograph.
