SCOPE AND CONTENT:

The Editorial Writing Walker Stone Award records contains winning and finalist entries from 1983-2009, with the exception of 1995. Entry portfolios consist of a nominating letter, copies of previously published newspaper articles written by the winner or finalist, and occasionally judges’ remarks. A few portraits of winners and finalists are scattered throughout the collection. One folder contains award programs and entry information.

The entries are organized chronologically by publication year. For a chronological list of past winners, see http://www.shawards.org/pdf/PastWinners.pdf or the attached document.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

The Editorial Writing Walker Stone Award is one of several award categories for the National Journalism Awards given by Scripps Howard Foundation. Other award categories include environmental reporting, first amendment, public service journalism, and outstanding newspaper writing. There is a $50.00 entry fee and winners attend a National Journalism Awards dinner in Cincinnati, Ohio. Awards are given the year after publication (e.g. articles published in 2000 would receive an award in 2001).
