Steely Library and the Office of the Provost are pleased to announce the 2025-26 cycle of Open Educational Resources (OER) Instructor Grant. Starting in 2022, 30 NKU instructors have adopted or adapted OER, helping students avoid an estimated $140,000 in one-time course material costs. Now in its fourth cycle, funds and professional support will be made available to NKU instructors who are passionate about adopting or adapting existing OERs for a fall 2025, spring 2026, or summer 2026 course.

Available grants for 2025-2026:

Adopt Grant: $500 to find, evaluate, and adopt an OER for an NKU course.

Adapt Grant: $1000 to find, evaluate, and adapt (through revision or remixing) OER for an NKU course.

In addition to funding, awardees will receive:

  • Regular one-on-one consultative support from a Steely Librarian.
  • Milestone email communication and check-ins, based on a shared project timeline.
  • Professional guidance on Creative Commons licensing, Canvas integration, open publishing platforms, and resource accessibility.

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until funding is depleted. Selection of awardees will be based on projects that:

  • Replace expensive course materials for NKU students,
  • are feasible to complete during the 2025-2026 fiscal year, and
  • clearly articulate a purpose for adopting or adapting OER.

In line with Steely Library’s student-first mission, additional consideration will be given to proposals that support or include multiple perspectives, increase the accessibility of openly licensed digital content, or incorporate open pedagogies.
