“I recommend this book because the imagery in this book is phenomenal! The way Owens was able to capture the culture, accents, and the nature descriptions were amazing! The story of the main character and her loneliness really captivated me and pulled at my heart strings.”

“I know what it is like having parents come to the US to live the American dream, but also struggle because they are undocumented. So I recommended this book, because I…want others to know the struggle people like us face day in and day out.”

"The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander

"I recommend this book because it describes the importance of acknowledging the racial injustice happening within our prisons and the incarceration rates that have been sky rocketing since the 1994 Crime bill and the War on drugs.”

    Sophomore, NKU L.A.M.P.

"None of The Above" by I. W. Gregorio

"A female of the age of 16 found out she has male sexual parts. It is her story of trying to figure out if she would like to stay a female or change. It is her story of figuring out who she truly is.”

    Wendi Cantero
    Sophomore, NKU L.A.M.P.

"Love My Rifle More Than You" by Kayla Williams

"This book is the memoir of Kayla Williams, a woman who served in Iraq for the U.S. Army. She discusses her personal experiences as a woman in a male dominant field in a very blunt, almost raw way that shows a different perspective of the military. It was interesting to read about the sexism that she faced as a soldier as well as the personal conflicts that she faced while serving.”
