Steely Library Joins the ACRL Diversity Alliance

February 18, 2022
This year, Steely Library took a step forward in showing our commitment to diversity in the library profession by joining the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Diversity Alliance.

The ACRL Diversity Alliance Membership gives Steely the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded academic and research libraries to help diversify and enrich the library profession by “increasing the hiring pipeline of qualified and talented individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups” (ACRL Diversity Alliance).

As a member of the Diversity Alliance, Steely Library is committed to establishing a paid two-to-three-year residency program for an early-career librarian from a historically underrepresented group. The design of the residency program aims to couple the professional goals of the resident with the strategic vision of the library. The library will prioritize creating a program that prepares the resident for success in academic librarianship through mentorship, networking, and hands-on library experience.

The inaugural resident will be organizationally situated in the Digital Scholarship and Communications Department. Recruitment for Steely Library’s Digital Humanities Resident Librarian will open in Spring 2022.
