Subject: Recent tragedy in Buffalo, New York
Dear Campus Community:

On Saturday, we again learned of violent acts of hate and intimidation with news of the tragic shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, that took the lives of 10 people and left three others wounded. Officials have said the attack was racially motivated, and that the suspect drove more than 200 miles to east Buffalo to specifically target a predominantly Black part of the city.

On behalf of the NKU community, I offer my deepest condolences to all those who are grieving from these horrific events. Senseless tragedies like this sadden and frustrate me and I know their impact is felt across the nation and here on our campus.

The NKU community condemns acts of violence fueled by hate. We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment where equity, diversity, and inclusiveness are core values. Respect for all members of our community and a sense of belonging for everyone have always been defining characteristics of our community and we stand with the community at large in supporting these principles.

Please know that there is support available for you if you need it.

  • Please visit the Health, Counseling & Student Wellness Center website or call (859) 572-5650 to learn about the resources available to you.
  • You may contact Human Resources about Aetna’s Resources for Living that provide confidential counseling, articles and tools to support your health and wellbeing.
  • Do not hesitate to reach out to NKU Police with any security or safety concerns you may have. If you see something that concerns you or scares you, please say something.

Let us continue to work toward tolerance and peace in the community and the world as we continue to care for each other.

Sincerely,
Ashish Vaidya
