Subject: Sad News

Dear Campus Community:

With deep sadness, I share news of the passing of Lauren Mae Schneeg last month. Lauren was 24 and pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing degree in the accelerated online program here at NKU with a nurse-practitioner focus. She passed away on February 15, 2022, in Toledo, Ohio, and our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

Lauren worked as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio, where she was well-known for her caring support for each of her patients. She had taught Sunday school as a teenager at her church in Glandorf, Ohio, and she was well known for her jokes and her love for spending time with family, playing games and being with friends. Before beginning classes in our School of Nursing, Lauren had graduated from Ottawa Glandorf High School in Ohio in 2016 and she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Toledo in 2019.

Losing a member of our campus community impacts each of us, so please remember it is always OK to ask for the help you need. For our students, Health, Counseling, and Student Wellness’ counselors and support services can be reached by calling 859-572-5650. We also have a 24-hour crisis line at 859-572-7777, in addition to the national crisis line available at 1-800-784-2433 or by texting 741741. For the faculty and staff, University Wellness provides the Employee Assistance Program through Aetna. It offers online resources and counselors available anytime.

Lauren has been remembered as “kind, intelligent, fun-spirited and adventurous.” She was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, cousin and friend. I send my deep sympathies to her family, friends and to the campus community.

Sincerely,
Ashish Vaidya
